Abstract

The foundation cream is a type of decorative makeup, which usually includes sunscreen agent.
Dibenzalacetone is one of the potential organic sunscreens agent. In oil-in-water foundation creams,
the recovery rate of the oil phase does not necessarily increase even if the concentration is high.
However, using a combination of two emulsifiers, such as span 80 and tween 80, in the optimal
combination may be a right solution. This study aims to determine the optimum foundation cream
formula with combination of span 80 and tween 80 as emulsifiers. The optimized formula was created
using the Simplex Lattice Design Method with the help of Design Expert version 10.0.1. The
optimization responses were pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersibility and SPF value. The optimum
formula resulted in a ratio of span 80 and tween 80 7.172%:3.828%. The test results obtained an
average pH of 6.38; viscosity 5183 cps; adhesion 2.458 seconds; 6.1 cm spreadability and an SPF
value of 35.307.
